New Faculty Introduction - Shuwen Li

January 4, 2024

Professor Shuwen Li joined Northwestern’s Cook Family Writing Program as an Associate Professor of Instruction in January 2023. Prior to joining, Professor Li taught at University of Michigan for several years. At the University of Michigan, she worked with writers one-on-one to collaborate on writing tasks.

With this experience, she is currently teaching English 282: Writing and Speaking in Business. Professor Li is currently working on projects centered on teaching case analysis in business communication. Her goal is to lay out the foundational skills that consulting firms assess in case interviews. Using this research, she wants to equip students with transferable skills and prepare them for case interviews. She recently presented this project at the International Conference of Association of Business Communication and continues learning from her colleagues and students.

When asked what her biggest piece of advice to succeed was, Professor Li stated, “Writing is a craft, a design that takes time to build but can help you understand yourself and do stuff in the world.”
