Ellen Wright has written scholarly articles
on Latin literature, Old English literature, Renaissance
literature, and American literature, and worked as both
a magazine and book editor. She is currently writing
a book about Roni Stoneman, legendary Nashville
musician (First Lady of Banjo) and comedian (Hee
Haw's "Ironing Board Lady"). In her spare
time she plays the guitar and performs bluegrass around
the country with her husband John Wright, Professor
Emeritus of Classics. They have just produced their
first album together, "I Shook Hands with Eleanor
Roosevelt," which can be heard at www.cdbaby.com/wrightje.
She teaches Intermediate Composition, Advanced Composition,
and How Language Works, a Freshman Seminar. What she
likes particularly about teaching Northwestern students
is that when she makes suggestions for papers (e.g.,
"How about a little dialogue here?"), the
rewrites are usually so much better than anything she
had imagined.
